Did they, by chance , take any inspiration from the T-Bird? I know it may seem crazy, but I see tiny styling cues from the Thunderbird. Like, for example, the shape of the turn signals, and the entire rest of the car.

Yes, the coupé version of the Auto Union 1000. Three cylinder two stroke. Was replaced by the boxy looking Audi (it became an Audi when it got a four stroke) which later became the Audi 75 and several other numbers and eventually was succeeded by the A4.
